Artist Panel on March 21 from 6 - 8 pm: Come to the Letters Beyond Formartist panel and hear from commissioned artists breaking down the boundaries of letter-making. This event features Sir Charles, whose work draws from Chicago gang lettering to create expressive graffiti-inspired designs; Heart & Bone Signs (Kelsey McClellan), sign painters whose work shapes and beautifies communities; and Jackson Showalter-Cavanaugh (Okay Types), a type designer crafting typefaces for top brands worldwide. Curatorial Conversation on March 26 from 11 am - 2 pm: Join curator Amira Hegazy, curatorial assistant Paolina Montes, and curatorial intern Liana Fu for a behind-the-scenes discussion on the creative decisions and research that brought the Letters Beyond Form exhibition to life. Catalog Release and Closing Party on April 3 from 4 - 7 pm: Celebrate the exhibition’s run at the catalog release and closing party. This event is free but you can order a copy of the official catalog to take home. RSVP here.
Artist Opportunity
The Chicago History Museum is seeking Chicago-based artists to create an original work in any medium that centers around America's 250th anniversary. Proposals are due by March 31. They will award four artists $10,000 each.
Mark your calendars, April 25 is the opening for our spring All City Visual Arts Exhibition! The Design Museum is partnering with Chicago Public Schools Department of Arts Education to continue our popular showcase of student achievements in visual and media arts. Work from students in pre-K through 12th grade will be on display in-person and online.
