May Melodies: Celebrating Chicago's House Legacy!

Chicago: Home of House

May 1 – October 31, 2024
Pop-up exhibit at Navy Pier, 600 E Grand

Chicago is the birthplace of House music. House evolved through the early 1980s and brought together Chicagoans of different races, ages, cultures, and orientations like no other medium of that day. House music was conceived and perfected in bedrooms and basements of Black and Latino youth on Chicago’s South and West Sides. This pop-up exhibition is being presented at Navy Pier (600 E Grand Ave) in partnership The Vintage House Show Collective.

Great Ideas: Students for the Future

May 9 – 29, 2024
Atrium Gallery exhibit at DMoC, 72 E Randolph

Inspired by the DMoC series Great Ideas of Humanity, this juried exhibition invites designers to take a “great idea” or inspirational quote and create a visual poster as a response. These posters can’t advertise products, but should instead highlight a message — making the world a better place through thoughtful design. This show is an extension this series, intended for rising designers rather than established professionals. Many thanks to our printing sponsor, Chicago Event Graphics!

Zachary A. Furniture Residency

Beginning May 10, 2024
Pop-up furniture exhibit at DMoC, 72 E Randolph

Experience the artistry and intimacy of the Paper collection from Zachary A. Design. These pieces are like a love letter, with every mark, fold, and crease on the surface telling a story. The artist's hand is evident in each piece, creating a sense of history and timelessness. Each item starts as a sketch, brought to life through the art of folding and casting. The crumpled form of the drawing becomes the mold, allowing the marks to become a permanent part of the finished product. The Paper collection is a breathtaking display of how a drawing can be transformed into a functional object in three-dimensional space.
